The Lung Theory

To understand this, you must know the definitions of some simple terms..
TV, Tidal volume: Volume of one breath
ERV, Expiratory reserve volume: The extra volume of air a person can push out when he exhales as forcibly as possible
RV, Residual volume: The volume of air left in the lungs even after the expiratory reserve volume is exhaled



it struck me cos i had jus finished my spirometer pbl when i read candice's blog.

relationship is veri much similar to respiration.

most of the time u're probably just exhaling the tidal volume.. which is the norm for respiration.. the least u have to give to get the relationship going.

u may choose to give more.. or u may not.. but the point is.. u are capable of giving more.. which is the ERV.

but there's alwaes the RV which can never be given.. a part of you that is for yourself only.. that you must not and cannot afford to give. i suppose it's part of ur survival instict.. to preserve urself. the reason why the RV cannot be exhaled is partly bcos of the noncollapsible airways. and our instinct retains that bit of ourselves so that we wun ever collapse.. in case *touch wood* ur -someone- dies or something. retaining the RV is a form of self-preservation.. an independent part of u.. that will survive even if all else fails..

and of cos u can (kind of) apply the same theory to wat candice was talking about. how much do u tell ur bf/gf? if u make an effort.. u can exhale ur ERV.. u can tell him/her almost everything.. and not hide anything. but there's alwaes a part of u that u keep private.. ur RV.. an intimate part that onli u and God noe about..
