does quantity diminish quality? does frequency lessen significance?

consider this: two people are crying, who will you care more about if to one of them tears come fast and easy, while the other rarely cries?

or this: will you place more value to the word "dearest" if it's used often or if it's hard to come by?

does quantity mean that something is being given indiscriminately? it would seem so, wouldn't it? quantity doesn't make you a bad person, not at all, but it does tend to devalue whatever it is you're doing. though, as someone once said to me (in slightly different wording), does crying more often make my tears less important and my heart less broken?

so should you hold yourself back? should you stop yourself giving as much as you want because you want to preserve its value? it doesn't seem right to do that, does it? nothing should get in the way of giving and loving.

but i'm no different from the majority of people.. i can't get away from this stereotype thinking. something that's said frequently doesn't do it for me. whether or not a person means what he/she says each time it's said can't be discerned anymore. do you mean it when you say that? or do you say it because you're used to saying it? how do i tell?

and of course, if you say it to most everyone else, it's a different matter altogether. that definitely takes any value out of your words.
