the self-preservation quotient formula

when you like someone, you reach a point where you can't like the person any more than you already do. i like to think of it as love.. but that's open to debate. so you reach this maximum point X.. but there exist a self-preservation quotient -- Y.

and because of Y, you don't perceive X.. you don't feel X. this self-preservation stops ALL your love, ALL of X, from being brought out. so what you perceive and feel is in X-Y. and given that what you feel is Z,

Z = X - Y

Y can be due to many possible reasons. let me give an example.. Y can be brought about by unrequited love. because X is unrequited, what you feel isn't the actual amount of love you have.

and Y is a variable. when X is finally requited, Y goes down. you THINK you're more in love now than you were before.. but no you're not. you only perceive loving more and you feel more, but in actual fact, your love hasn't increased. X hasn't increased. Y has been reduced and that's why Z increases.. that's why you feel more.

Y isn't necessarily all that bad. it protects you. it's an inate self-preservation mechanism. it's actually a really good thing.
